Leading Recordkeeper — The Migration That Set the Standard

The Challenge

A leading retirement recordkeeper needed to migrate its entire recordkeeping operation from FIS OmniPlus to SS&C DST TRAC. This was not a routine conversion. The engagement involved 700,000 participants, $20 billion in assets under administration, and more than 600 individual retirement plans — each with unique configurations, plan rules, and customizations built over decades on the OmniPlus platform.

The absolute requirement: zero-day blackout. Participants could not lose access to their accounts for a single day. Trading could not stop. Compliance reporting could not lapse. Every single data point had to transfer with 100% accuracy.

Our Approach

Convergent deployed a team of senior practitioners who had personally operated both OmniPlus and TRAC platforms. Our approach included:

Custom ETL Applications — We built purpose-built applications to extract, transform, and load data between the two platforms. These were not off-the-shelf tools. They were engineered specifically for the data architectures of OmniPlus and TRAC.

OmniScript Analysis — Our team analyzed over 35,000 custom OmniScripts and TRAC programs to understand the full scope of business logic embedded in the source platform. We built custom applications to parse, categorize, and map these scripts to equivalent TRAC functionality.

Dry-Run Methodology — We executed three progressively rigorous dry runs before go-live. Each dry run validated data accuracy, identified edge cases, and refined our conversion scripts. By the time we reached production cutover, we had already proven the process end-to-end.

Data Standardization — We developed custom data standardization tools that normalized data formats between the two platforms, ensuring consistency across all 600+ plans.

Automated Test Scripts — We created automated validation scripts that verified every participant record, plan configuration, and financial balance post-migration.

The Results

The migration was completed on schedule with 100% data accuracy and zero participant impact. No blackout period. No data loss. No compliance gaps.

This engagement established Convergent's Migration Playbook — a methodology of 1,200+ tasks that has become the standard for every migration engagement we undertake.

It remains the largest single-platform retirement migration completed without a blackout period in recent industry history.

Why Most Retirement Technology Modernization Fails — And What the Winners Do Differently

The future of retirement technology will not be won by the firms with the most tools, the biggest teams, or the loudest AI announcements. It will be won by the firms that can translate domain knowledge into technical execution faster than their competitors.
